Watch and Whistle

Watch and Whistle

A railroad theme in this one. The kerosene lantern is from the 1920's New York Central RR and the keys are from the former Harbor Belt Line Railroad. The brass steam whistle is from an 1890's Sierra Nevada foothills saw mill. The watch is mine while the chain and carved ivory fob were my dad's.

DVD Wishlist Update

DVD Wishlist Update

After adding the 300 Special Edition DVD to my wishlist I knew there had to be more DVDs on the horizon worth picking up. A little perusing over at thedigitalbits.com turned up a treasure trove or goodies:

The Muppet Show - Season Two - I'll admit, I haven't watched all of Season One yet but I still very much want to add this to my collection. Another part of my demented childhood.

Flash Gordon (Saviour Of The Universe Edition) - It's f'in Flash Gordon! I get pumped just looking at the artwork for this DVD. FORGET IT MING, DALES WITH ME!!!! So bad ass!

The Tick Vs. Season 2 - This will be going on the wish list alongside Season 1 sadly as I still have to pick that up.

The Fly Collector Set (The Fly / The Fly II) - Honestly, I really only care about the original here. I'm not quite sure if I've even seen The Fly II. I've been itching to watch this for a very long time now so I'll be happy to pick up this collection when it hits stores.

The Dark Crystal (25th Anniversary Edition) - The Dark Crystal has been on and off my wish list more times than I'd care to admit. It's one of those movies I remember from my childhood, but I'm nervous to see it again. I do remember crying my eyes out at one point in this film.

Back To School (Extra-Curricular Edition) - Not one of my favorite 80's films, but still worthy of picking up just for Rodney. They sure don't make em like they used to.

Serenity (Collector's Edition) - Never got around to picking up whatever version of this movie is currently available. I do hate this bogus collector's editions though.

Robocop (20th Anniversary Collector's Edition) - Another long time favorite that I have yet to pick up on DVD. How many versions of this are currently available? It's like they do a new edition every year. Maybe I should hold off for the 21st Anniversary Edition. Gimmie a break.

Heroes - Season 1 - Can't wait to wipe these off the DVR. Great first season minus the anti-climactic ending.

Fraggle Rock - Complete Third Season - This will be comfy on the list right next to Season Two. What can I say, I'll get around to picking them both up eventually.

It was official. A new season had begun.

It was official. A new season had begun.

Maybe our mistakes are what make our fate. Without them, what would shape our lives? Perhaps if we never veared off course, we wouldn’t fall in love, or have babies, or be who we are. After all, season change, so do cities. People come into your life and people go. But it’s comforting to know the ones you love are always in your heart. And if you’re very lucky, a plane ride away.~Carrie Bradshaw

So I saw Toy Story 3 last night. I'm a big fan of this trilogy and grew up watching the first two. I loved this third one just as much as the first two, however, I was shocked at the very adult themes. Don't get me wrong, it's an excellent movie, but I wouldn't recommend it for small children. There were scenes that were reminiscent of the Holocaust and concentration camps. Pretty scary stuff. Regardless, it was a great movie and it made me cry and I'll own it once it's out on DVD. :)

I've been tagged by Elaine Magliacane .

16 things about me:
1. This is a 40 year old high school senior high school photo. Which probably means I am a bit of nerd. In high school, I set up the communications setup for football games. I also set up sound and lights for all school assemblies. I ran the old spark projector when films were shown.

2. At about the time this picture was taken I was the record buyer for a small variety store in a small town in central California.

3. I got my first guitar when I was about 9. During my playing days I also acquired a mandolin and a banjo. When I visited my uncle on music nights I would occasionally play bass.

4. I haven't played any of the above in over 30 years.

5. The highlight of my music "career" was playing with Jerry Garcia before he formed the Grateful Dead on my uncle's music nights.

6. I spent 4 years in the Air Force spending a year and a half in southeast Asia. During a short period of time during my southeast Asia stay I was temporarily assigned to work for the CIA. I joined the Air Force because I had a very low lottery number and was drafted while I was in basic training in San Antonio, Texas.

7. I was a history major in college, so I decided to sell steel buildings for a living. I worked as a draftsman during the days and went to college at night.

8. I was a mechanic in the Air Force but qualified as a expert marksman. I was a mechanic in the Air Force even though I got 100 % on my electronics aptitude test (2 years of high school electronics). I should have missed a question on the mechanics test.

9. I worked part time for Pizza Hut in Las Vegas, Nevada while I was stationed at Nellis Air Force Base. I quit that part time job to go to work part time at the base bowling alley as a pin setter/mechanic.

10. I like all kinds of music. My collection includes all types of classical, blues, some country, bluegrass, jazz of all sorts, a few operas, early soul/r & b, rock...especially classic rock of the 60s and early 70s. I have a Santana CD recently released of music done at the Fillmore in San Francisco in 1968. I first saw Santana live at the Fillmore in San Francisco in 1968. A big fan of Jimi Hendrix....but there are so many others. I have known the family of Mike Allsop the guitarist for Three Dog Night for as long as I can remember.

11. I attended a party backstage with Blood, Sweat, and Tears at the Convention Center in Las Vegas...a civilian friend's dad was stage manager for events...and got me passes.

12. I have been married to my first wife for 36 years now...I guess she is going to keep me. We were barely married when I was sent to Asia for one of my stays there.

13. I am a reader. History, science (especially astronomy and astrophysics), philosophy, biography, science fiction, mysteries, and just regular old fiction.

14. I have two sons and a daughter. There is also 2 grandchildren.

15. I love British comedies. I like Monty Python. I have come close to memorizing all episodes of Fawlty Towers. I have a routine where I watch at least one episode of the Good Life every Sunday evening. Right after an episode of All Creatures Great and Small seasons 1-3 on DVD.

16. The first movie I remember ever going to see by myself in a movie theater was Robinson Crusoe on Mars.

I've been obsessed with 30 Rock for the past few weeks. I finally sat down and watched all of season 2, which was pretty much all kinds of awesome! Season 3 has been so-so, but the most recent episode with Jon Hamm was definitely the best so far! I could be biased though, since I'm totally in love with Jon Hamm...

Fourth of July

Fourth of July

Happy 4th of July!
It's the Biggest U.S. Fireworks Day of the Year!

What did the American President do every 4th of July?
After much painstaking research.. here is an accurate annual chronology of what happened every fourth of July while George W. Bush has been in office:

From the White House:
- Bush and the First Lady address at Independence Hall in Philadelphia and is presented a keepsake box from Philadelphia Mayor John Street.
(The box was made out of wood from the last surviving "liberty tree" that stood on the campus of St. John's College in Annapolis, Maryland).

2002- The president visits Ripley, West Virginia, where he gives a speech in which he says, "People need to celebrate freedom and . . . go about their business knowing full well that our government is doing everything we can to protect them."
In the evening, Bush is back in the White House viewing the fireworks taking place.

2003- Bush is at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio, which commemorates the 100th anniversary of powered flight by Wilbur and Orville Wright, and Bush gives a speech with comments on the U.S.-led Global War on Terror.
The president returns to Washington after spending about an hour in Dayton and watches fireworks from the balcony of the White House.

2004- The president is in Charleston, West Virginia, presenting a 24 minute speech in which he praises U.S. troops in Iraq for their efforts there and thanks National Guard members for their services.

2005- President Bush is in Morgantown, West Virginia, at West Virginia University, asking an audience to hold firm and that America should "finish the fight" in Iraq.

2006- The president addresses troops at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, advising against setting a timetable for withdrawal from Iraq.

Independence Day, 2007
President Bush said, "Two hundred thirty-one years ago, 56 brave men signed their names to a bold creed of freedom that set the course of our Nation and changed the history of the world. On this anniversary, we remember the great courage and conviction of our Founders, and we celebrate the enduring principles of our Declaration of Independence."

In his 2007 State of the Union Address, President Bush addressed the major issues facing our nation and discussed opportunities for both parties to work together to accomplish big objectives for the American people. The President unveiled a positive, comprehensive agenda that will improve the daily lives of the American people and explain how our actions in the world will make our Nation safer and more secure:

ENERGY: Strengthening America's Energy Security

HEALTH CARE: Affordable, Accessible, And Flexible Health Coverage

EDUCATION: Building On Results: A Blueprint For Strengthening NCLB

IMMIGRATION: President Bush's Plan For Comprehensive Immigration Reform

HIV/AIDS: Leading The Worldwide Fight Against HIV/AIDS

MALARIA: The President's Malaria Initiative Is Saving Lives

DEFENSE: Strengthening Our Military

SPENDING REFORMS: Reforms To Spend Tax Dollars Wisely.

The President believes we can find practical ways to advance the American Dream and keep our Nation safe without either party compromising its principles.

week 4? 5? /52 - Stuck in the Subway.

week 4? 5? /52 - Stuck in the Subway.

"yeah sure, once I get on the train, I'll be there in 10-15min"
Well, that is, if I don't get stuck between Chambers and Canal Streets for 35min.
I wish I could say that this was an uncommon experience, but alas, I can't.

I was on my way to the final softball game of the season, and RUSHING because they needed 2 females so they wouldn't have to forfeit. I was sitting on the train, looking at my watch, becoming more and more depressed, because I was sure they'd have forfeited by the time I got there. I got out of the train nearly an hour after I left the office, and it was POURING, so if figured it was a lost cause, but I walked up to the fields anyway... we hadn't forfeited, and we were having a rain break. We lost, but I played well and had fun... now if we could just get a fix for the mugginess....

I totally slacked and didn't post a 52 weeks pic last week... so, would that make this week 4? or 5? (date-wise it's 5, picture-wise it's 4)
